Good Morning and why I cannot wait for Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga!!

Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga is the new Hindi film starring Sonam Kapoor along with her real life father Anil Kapoor, along with veteran actors Rajkummar Rao, Juhi Chawla and Regina Cassandra in prominent roles. The film is set to premier in 1.2. (I’m seeing it 6.2. so keeping myself away from spoilers until then) and from all the small hints and clips as well as the hashtag #LetLoveBe as well as the tag line ‘The Most Unexpected Romance of TheYear!’ this is the going be the first mainstream Indian film with what happily looks to be a lesbian main character.

Now the section 377, the infamous illegal gay law, was decriminalised last year in India with many LBGQTA + people rejoicing. So to have this film come out the very next year, and with what looks like a non-stereotypical story and characters makes me very happy. Indian LGBQT films have usually been in the art house circuit since protest is usually the norm whenever the subject comes up, that is why the marketing has been so subtle and small, because of the fear of protest and I think it’s a good thing since I can then watch the film close to when it is released (side eye to Padmavati/Padmaavat for whom I had to wait agonising months to see). So really if this hinting is only for those with the eyes to see it and then those who miss it still come to see it and will be surprised by the story and might become ‘woke’ then it is a good thing!

I’ve been listening to the music of this film on repeat and plan having the soundtrack when it comes out. It’s like a breath of fresh air in an era where club songs are everything and one seems to get the same songs every movie, just with different lyrics and sound.

So when I hears ‘Good Morning’ I was extremely happy that this story seems to be going for a happy feeling and hopefully ending, but by this music it seems a good bet.
